As a wholly owned subsidiary of Kinectrics, (formerly the R&D Division of Ontario Hydro, one of North America's largest, and most reliable utilities) Axiom's clients are backed by nine decades of advanced technical expertise & experience with over 250 scientists, engineers & professional staff. Together we have the resources to support your inspection needs, whether they be managing large-scope turnaround projects, balance of plant programs, or time-sensitive callout jobs. Axiom NDT inspection personnel are 3rd party tested and certified by the Canadian General Standards Board (CAN/CGSB) to conduct inspection services in Canada. We have our own SNT-TC-1A Written Practice, which enables us to supply NDE services to the requirements of the ASME Codes. Axiom NDT Corporation provides ultrasonic examination services of materials and welds utilizing advanced methodologies such as phased array ultrasonic examination (PAUT) and time of flight diffraction (TOFD), as well as conventional ultrasonic flaw detection techniques with longitudinal and shear wave transducers. Each can be applied using manual, semi automated or fully automated scanning apparatus. Axiom NDT Corporation utilizes rugged and portable equipment capable of being applied in most industrial applications. Each PAUT system may be set up in a scan mode where linear electronic scanning is performed at a selected angle or in a sectoral arrangement where the scan angle is manipulated throughout a selected angular sweep such as 40 degree through 70 degree. Each scan sequence may be encoded such that all the test data is collected and through software processing, the resultant data can be presented in a variety of ways to aid in assessing the acceptability status of the part under examination. The benefits made possible by phased array ultrasonic examinations are primarily related to the techniques high speed examination abilities. The full volume of a weld may be examined by performing one linear scan around the weld circumference with transducers positioned on each side of the weld and from a fix position with respect to the weld centerline. Software is utilized to design the examination technique to ensure that the full volume of the weld is covered with the specific transducers being utilized. Phased array ultrasonic examination is increasingly gaining popularity as a means to replace radiographic examination in numerous applications where in the past codes or industry practice had mandated examination by radiographic process. In the last few years most of the ASME code sections have released code cases permitting the use these advanced ultrasonic techniques based on their demonstrated capabilities. Many studies have concluded that phased array ultrasonic examination is far superior to radiographic testing for the detection of the more injurious flaw types found in welds such as cracking, non fusion and lack of penetration. In addition, the absence of the need for radioactive substances that require extensive evacuation of trades' people from the workplace is a significant benefit to most industrial operations. Many that have changed from radiography to PAUT have found that the immediate and precise test results are of educational benefit to the welding crews which directly correlate to improved welding performance.
[Hide Details] Axiom NDT Corporation offer TOFD ultrasonic examination services for applications where high speed and accurate flaw detection and sizing ability are required. Unlike most ultrasonic examinations, this process does not require the use of expensive and often cumbersome calibration blocks or samples. Time of flight diffraction testing is an ideal technique for use in service when examining for cracking type flaws, however, it has also become a commonly used process during manufacturing operations. The set up using this process utilizes one or more sets of transducers positioned on each side of the weld and pointed at each other to provide a through transmission of ultrasound. The scanning which is typically encoded is performed by manipulating the transducer sets through one linear scan around the weld circumference or length. The resultant data is processed through software and is presented in various views that are selectable by the technician.
[Hide Details] Axiom NDT Corp offer advanced methodologies for detecting, classifying and sizing flaws in welds and other components. In addition to the phased array ultrasonic examination and time of flight diffraction processes, flaw discrimination techniques such as ID creeping wave, various flaw tip diffraction techniques, high angle longitudinal wave and multi mode techniques and procedures are available. These techniques can be extremely valuable when assessing difficult configurations such as weld penetration roots and abrupt configuration changes such as weld counter bores.
[Hide Details] In addition to the advanced ultrasonic examination technologies, Axiom NDT specialize in the application of conventional ultrasonic testing where weld and part materials require full volume examination. Through the use of traditional shear wave and compression wave transducers and A-scan oscilloscope instrumentation, components are inspected in compliance with the applicable code and/or customer requirements. These same equipment types are also utilized for component thickness measurement to detect corrosion or erosion mechanisms that may be deteriorating components in service.
[Hide Details] Axiom NDT Corp. provides surface examination services for materials and welds utilizing traditional magnetic particle and liquid penetrant examination processes. These examinations are conducted by personnel qualified and certified according to the CAN/CGSB 48.9712 standard and/or the ASNT SNT-TC-1A standard, as required. Liquid penetrant surface examination processes are offer by Axiom NDT Corp to suit a wide range of field and lab applications. Liquid penetrant examinations performed in situ, in field circumstances are generally more suited to the solvent removable processes that use either colour contrast or fluorescent penetrant materials. Laboratory circumstances are more readily suited to water washable and high sensitivity processes such as the high or ultra high sensitivity fluorescent penetrants where the results are viewed under black light illumination and the surrounding white light is limited by various forms of shielding.

Magnetic Particle Examinations Axiom NDT Corporation utilizes electromagnetic yokes for field application where access is typically more restrictive. AC and DC yokes provide excellent surface examination capability with no risk of arc strikes on surfaces that may have been subject to heat treatments. These yokes used in conjunction with dry powders, wet colour contrast or fluorescent test mediums are suited to a wide variety of applications, test sensitivities, and acceptance criteria. Where increased sensitivity to subsurface defects is required Axiom NDT Corporation utilizes portable magnetizing equipment with capability to apply prod technology, coil wraps, and central conductors. Whatever the code or customer requirement for magnetic particle examination, Axiom NDT can develop the appropriate technique to ensure that the surface examination is suitable for the test component being examined. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Axiom NDT Corporation provides radiographic examination services for materials and welds utilizing Iridium 192, and Selenium 75 radioisotopes and traditional film techniques. These examinations are conducted by personnel qualified and certified according to the CAN/CGSB 48.9712 standard and/or the ASNT SNT-TC-1A standard, as required. Radiographic Examinations Radiographic examinations are conducted on site at the customer's facility with the development of the radiographic film occurring in a portable darkroom. The performance of each examination is accomplished by Certified Exposure Device Operators (CEDO) and all aspects of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations for industrial radiography with regard to radiation safety and exposure control are strictly enforced.
[Hide Details] Axiom NDT Corporation provides Positive Material Identification (PMI) services utilizing x-ray fluorescence based portable analyzers. The analyzers are able to quantify the metallic alloying element make up of a material to aid in determining the materials type and grade. Analysis is performed in a nondestructive and nonintrusive manner by placing the instrument probe aperture on a small sample of the test component surface that has been cleaned to bright metal. The Positive Material Identification process ensures that the correct material type has been utilized according to the design specifications for any particular service condition. ![]() [Hide Details] Axiom NDT retains a full complement of experienced personnel that have a vast amount of knowledge in all roles of manufacturing, construction, and source/surveillance inspection.
