If catastrophic failures are to be prevented by use of Non-destructive Testing/Inspection, these tests must be selected, applied, and interpreted with care and on the basis of valid knowledge of the failure mechanisms and their causes.
At Axiom N.D.T. our inspection personnel have a thorough knowledge of NDT methods and have been third party tested and certified by the Canadian Government Agency (CAN/CGSB) to conduct the inspection services we employ.

Advance Flaw Sizing techniques.
[View Details]
We are able to conduct advanced flaw sizing methods such as phased array, creeping wave, time of flight and delta time of flight techniques. All of these inspection techniques have their place when discerning and sizing cracks and defects.
With our highly skilled and qualified technicians we are able to offer solutions and the ability to monitor defects through the use of these advanced flaw-sizing methods.
The Phased Array approach provides the most flexible solution when the detection and monitoring of defects is desired. This is due to the equipment having the ability to generate focused longitudinal and shear wave arrays, which can be stored and compared for future reference and comparison. This inspection method can help in establishing growth rates of cracks or erosion/corrosion rates of an in service component.
Comparison of phased array (left picture) and radiography (right picture) to evaluate perosity.
The Creeping wave method is an excellent tool for sizing and detecting far side initiated cracks. It is particularly useful when inspecting stainless steels for Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (IGSCC) due to the longitudinal mode generated by this transducer.
The Time of Flight (TOF) methods utilize a couple of different techniques. All of which are extremely accurate in determining the depths of near side or far side initiated cracks.
The Delta Time of Flight method is most accurate when used in conjunction with a specific technique and transducer most commonly focused to the particular geometry of the part under inspection.

LIQUID PENETRANT
PENETRANT TESTING IS PERFORMED ON A REGULAR BASIS (FLUORESCENT & VISIBLE) ON NEWLY PRODUCED AND IN SERVICE PARTS.
The above extrusion ring was U/T tested in the axial direction (as per inspection plan). During initial testing, a low amplitute Indication was located close to the I.D. Surface. A large crack of 12" in length was only able to be positively confirmed by penetrant inspection of the suspect area.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION
Our Magnaflux wet bench has a maximum clearance of 12 feet between the head and tail stock, with an output of 6000 amps. It has the capacity to inspect very large components as well as small. The bench is fitted with automatic demag for the removal of residual currents after testing. Access to the wet bench is aided by an overhead crane for loads that are not able to be handled manually.

Our portable Phased Array equipment is capable of performing tests and acquiring data in situations where other systems can not be used due to fixed restrictions and limited general access. The following pictures give some insight to the types of access problems that are often encountered when performing tests at Refineries or Power Plants.

Our inspection technicians have been tested and certified by the Canadian government agency (CAN/ C.G.S.B.) to conduct inspections, and have many years of hands-on experience with most NDT methods. This experience goes beyond the theory and practice of a particular method or technique to the study of the underlying problem, the consequences of failure, and the prediction of remaining life.
We are able to supply C.G.S.B. Level III services in all N.D.T. disciplines we utilize. Our Level III technicians have experience in developing and qualifying inspection procedures.
